Double Down – KFC’s New Chicken Sandwich

This is the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had…ever.  I can’t find much about it online and neither could my husband, but thankfully he posted a blog about it!

This is perhaps the most insane “sandwich” I have ever seen. A fried chicken patty, 2 slices of cheese, 2 slices of bacon, and another fried chicken patty.  Wow.  Sorry I don’t have much else to say, it is like the Monster Burger of chicken.  My mind is boggled… the funny thing about this sandwich is that it is part of the “unthink kfc” advertising, which has previously only been for grilled chicken. So, upon seeing this I did what anyone would do and drove over to KFC to buy the beast.  The “meal” is $6.99, but you can buy the sandwich for a mere $4.99.  The description from the horse’s mouth:

  • 2 Original Recipe Filets
  • Bacon
  • Pepper Jack Cheese
  • Swiss Cheese
  • Colonel’s Sauce

High Heel Run – John C Fremont Days

July 12th, 2009 was the High Heel Run at the John C. Fremont Days in Fremont, Nebraska.  Thankfully I got news of the run a day before it occurred and was able to beg my husband to completely uproot his Sunday schedule and take me to Fremont to participate!

The goal was to get 280 people and set the world record for the most amount of people running a certain distance in high heels that were at least 7 cm tall and tapered to a point of no more than 1.5 cm.

Being the insanely excitable person I am, once I confirmed Jason and I would be going, I tried on and measured just about every high heel shoe I have and chose three of the best ones and proceeded to run around and jump around the apartment in them like a five year old!  I figured if I could stay up on thick carpet, I’d be good to go on a road.

The day of the run came and boy was I nervous because first, I didn’t want to be the last to finish and second, because I didn’t want to hit the ground with all of those people watching!!

Thankfully, once I arrived there were groups of people signing in and even guys decided to participate.  Helpful hint to male readers – if you are considering running in a high heel run, visit your local thrift shops for shoes!

The run was shorter than I thought, and let me say, it was MUCH easier to run in heels than I ever thought it would be.  I didn’t fall, finished somewhere in the middle, and all in all…had an insane amount of fun.

Sadly we did not get the world record.  In the end, we only had about 105 runners, far from the 280 needed.  What’s crazy is there were so many people sitting on the sidelines just watching, that if they had just participated we would have had the record for sure!  Very very sad.

You can read the Fremont Times article here and I’ve added photos to my Flickr account if you want to check those out!

It’s turning my finger a bluish black from the metal, but I still love it.  Learning how to use GIMP, this is one of my first, what I consider, really nice images!

Roller Skating

About three years ago, while my husband and I were trying to climb a mountain in Colorado, we got lost and ended up off the trail.  On the way back down from our terrifying adventure in snow and ice, I fell and ended up with a stress fracture in my left leg.   To this day, I still can’t run without pain or fear of pain, and I’m better than the weather channel at telling a person if a storm is on the way.

Jason, my husband, still enjoys going out running and exercising and sadly, I just can’t keep up with him.  This is why I’ve decided that roller skating will be my way to get out with my hubby and stay in shape!

For about a week I spent my time online researching the types of skates, wheels, and reading reviews so I could ensure I was getting the right skate for me.  If you are contemplating roller skating, I highly suggest doing this first.  I just had no idea there were so many different things to consider before buying a pair!

After much research I decided on men’s Roller Derby Cobra style skates.  Part of the reason I purchased these is it is terribly difficult to find roller skates in stores.  Ordering online is a great option, but I didn’t want to fess up twenty plus dollars for shipping.

Many reviews said they were heavy and slow, but when I tried them on in the store I found them  very comfortable and not heavy at all.  Note to women out there, if you purchase men’s roller skates, get one size smaller than you are.  So I’m a size 7 in women’s shoes, so I bought a size 6 in men’s.  So anyway, I purchased these skates, a helmet, and pads for my knees, elbows and wrists.

Now it turns out, skating is not like riding a bike.  It is NOT one of those things that you stop doing for ten years or so then just start up again!  First, the Roller Derby Cobra skates are NOT slow at all.  I’m not for sure what kind of skater that reviewer was, but as someone learning again, these are not the ideal skates.  I can get up hills just fine, but going down I just seem to speed up and fall.  Definitely not enjoyable.

falling

Me falling

Clearly falling hurts like heck and I still have a nice bruise on the right side of my rear, but skating with traditional skates was crazy fun!  It’s going to take a lot of practice for sure and I’ll be keeping everyone up to date with pictures, blogs and tips here!

Hopefully the better I get at skating, the more I can keep up with my husband and the more in shape I’ll get!  How exciting!
